Everyone on the bank buried their
heads in the grass to avoid any impact from the blast, Lewis
coughing and spluttering heavily, both of them covered in dust, Lewis sat up, “Lia... Liam” he murmured, still trying
to not to inhale the fumes, he stood up slowly but lost his balance, he saw
Connor still knocked unconscious by the explosion lying next to him, he walked
over to him and grabbed hold of his shoulder’s, everyone at the bank stood with
their hands on their heads, “oh my god” Lily whimpered, but then they saw a
black figure reveal from the smoke, it was Lewis dragging Connor slowly out of
the dust cloud, he dragged him back out onto the road by the banc on the kerb
of the road, Herbie, Rob and Ritchie all ran up to Lewis who fell to the floor
with exhaustion, Connor still unconscious, Lewis was still struggling to
breath, “oh my god are you okay?!” Ritchie asked Lewis ,
“yeah... (Cough) I’m fine, go (Cough) find Liam” he replied resting his head on
the road, “we can’t see anything, well have to wait for the dust cloud to die
down”, Lewis was helped to stand up by the two brunettes, he wiped his face
clear of dust with his sleeve, “I’m sorry I still don’t know your names” he
asked, “I’m grace” said the one on the left, “and I’m Megan” said the other,
“and what about the you, what’s your name?” he asked looking at the redheaded
girl, “oh um I’m Bella” she said still shocked by what she saw, “your extremely
lucky you weren’t killed ya’ know?” Lily
told Lewis , “huh? Oh yeah I know,
how’s Connor doing?”he asked, “he’s breathing, but he’s not responding yet, I
think he’s out cold” Rob said whilst putting his head on Connors chest checking
if he was breathing, the dust cloud dimmed and everyone searched around the still
burning, exploded bus but there was no sign of Liam, until Ritchie went to the
blue car where the fire had died down, where he saw Liam impaled on the front
windscreen, he was badly burnt on his face and arms, his eyes were wide open,
“hey guys quick, I found him” Ritchie shouted, everyone came running around the
bus and they all stood around the front of the car, Herbie brushed his hair
back with both hands and rested his hands on his head, “oh my god” he said as
he turned to walk away, Lewis walked up to Liam’s dead body and close his eye
lids, “we can’t just leave him here, not like this, It’s not right, especially
with the infected eating people” Lewis said holding his hand over his mouth,
“yeah he’s right” agreed Rob, “let’s move him somewhere where he can rest in
peace” said Herbie as he walked over to Liam and grabbed his arms, Lewis, Rob
and Ritchie all carried him over to the kerb, “we can’t stay here, but we can’t
leave Liam and Connor here alone, so you guys go get some type of transport and
supplies, and then come and get us, ill move them into the woods, to stay
safe”, “that’s a stupid idea, you don’t know how many of those things that the
explosion has attracted!” Herbie snapped, “well I’m not leaving him here like
this, he risked his life for someone he didn’t even know, and that’s something
I admire, true bravery,” Herbie turned around and put his hands on his hips,
“fine” he sighed, “but you better still be here when we come back...” “I’ll
stay too” interrupted Lily, “you know, to help with Connor and Liam” she
continued, “no, you go with them, It’s safer” Lewis said to her as he stood up,
“no I want to help”, “just let her stay here” Rob jumped in, “fine” Lewis
sighed looking Lily in the eye, so Herbie, Rob, Ritchie and the girls set off
down the road, Lewis walked over to Connor and dragged him over to Liam, “you
know what you did was really brave, you know, you and Connor” Lily said
stopping Lewis in his path, “it’s what anyone would have done” Lewis said
walking past her, he dragged both bodies onto the bank out of view of the road,
he sat down on the kerb, Lily sat next to him, “and thank you” she said, “what
for?” Lewis asked, “for what you did
in the woods” she smiled, “oh that, yeah well...” but before he could finish
she grabbed the front of his jacket and pulled him towards her, she kissed him,
“oh my god, what... what the hell happened?” a voice interrupted the intimate
moment, they both turned around to see Connor scratching his head, “oh for
god’s sake Con” Lewis complained, Lily giggled “we’ll finish this later” she
said with a smile, “go help your friend”, Lewis sighed heavily “fine”, he
walked over to Connor, “dude, Liam didn’t survive the explosion” he said
rubbing his forehead, “whatta ya’ mean?” he asked confusedly, “look over there”
Lewis pointed to the left of Connor where Liam’s Body was covered in burn marks
and dust, “oh my god” Connor said covering his eyes trying to hold back his
emotions, “where’s everyone else?” he asked holding back the tears, Lily came
over and said “they’ve gone to get some transport and supplies”, Connor looked
around to try and figure out his surroundings, “how long have they been?” he
asked, “bout 10 minutes?” Lewis
replied as he held out a hand to Connor, he grabbed his hand and Lewis pulled him up.
